Asking, “Why do you ask?”

Rather than start a monologue when asked, “Tell me a little about your church?” by a colleague at work this past week, I simply responded, “Why do you ask?”

My colleague shared, “I’ve heard many things about your church, and I think it’s most appropriate to ask an actual member of your church rather than assume the things I’ve heard are true.”

With this valuable insight, we discussed the value of seeking answers from actual sources and established the fact that many things said about the LDS church are not true.

She was specifically interested in our foundation beliefs about Christ, scripture and authority. Now knowing her level of interest, we had a meaningful discussion covering topics mentioned in the first several Articles of Faith.
