My “bad news / good news” approach

I have an experience about having conversations around what people are interested in.

Everyday Missionaries has me thinking there are innumerable other ways to do missionary work, and I was so happy to see my bus driver respond to what I describe as bad news / good news.

By “bad news / good news” I mean identifying, really, those who share our world view and are concerned about things like moral decline and loss of our freedoms.

After engaging a friend in this “bad news” part of the conversation, I often find such a friend will then ask a question such as, “But what is going to become of us or what on earth can we do?”

Now comes the “good news.” I reassure my friend most earnestly that all is surely not lost, for it is still God’s world — He sees all, knows all about your concerns, and cares about your feeling troubled.

Following this pattern, I invited my bus driver to learn about the love God and the peace available through the grace of Jesus Christ, to be taught by the full-time missionaries and to come to church with me.

She accepted my invitation, was baptized and is now ever so grateful. She found solutions exist! By the way, her son came into the Church, too.
