The “Second Greatest Message”
My wife and I have an experience about inviting people with love and without conditions.
We met a neighbor awhile ago, and following a business transaction, we gave him a Book of Mormon as a gift with our testimony inside the cover.
After reading The Power of Everyday Missionaries, we wanted to insure that we would remain friends with our neighbor (who we’ll call Jim) whether or not he accepted our invitation to listen to the “second greatest message we have ever heard,” i.e. the Restoration of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
We told him that the message would take between 30 and 45 minutes. We asked him if he had seen young men with white shirts riding bikes, and we let him know those young men are LDS missionaries and that they would be the ones who would be delivering the message.
Then we asked Jim if he would like to to hear the message. Jim agreed, the message was given, the Spirit was felt, and after agreeing with all that was presented to him, Jim accepted an invitation to be baptized.
During this past week, we have extended the invitation to listen to “the second greatest message we have ever heard” to seven others. Six have accepted our invitation, and the seventh is consulting with his wife. Four of the six have already been to our home and listened to the “message.”

Your story is an excellent demonstration of decoupling, or inviting without conditions. Thank you for sharing what you’ve done. I love what you call the restoration — after the life of Jesus Christ, the restoration really is the next greatest message. Can’t wait to hear more from you!
We have invited two more people to hear “the 2nd greatest message” and they have both agreed as well!
Thank you guys for being such great examples. My wife and I have invited an individual I work with, and two families to hear the gospel, each one accepted, and both families have already attended church. I cannot remember ever feeling more joy than we have felt as we have followed the principals outlined in The Power of Everyday Missionaries. Keep up the good work and let us know how things progress!
Two more invitations extended, blessed to have both accepted.
